A Long Labor Leads to a Beautiful Birth

This woman had been in labor for nearly two days. For more than 30 hours her waters had been broken, and she had not taken any pain medications. Despite the agonizing pain, she remained focused and determined to bring her baby into the world naturally. The nurses were impressed with her tenacity, although concerned about the duration of the labor, she felt that she could handle it; with her Bradley Method training, she knew how to use various positions to aid in the labor process with her husband. So, she changed positions frequently in an attempt to make progress and speed up the delivery. The nurses assisted her with warm compresses, different positions, and advice, but there was nothing more that could be done; the labor needed to take its own course. With no sign of the baby descending, the medical staff became increasingly concerned and began to contemplate the use of forceps. Then, with a little extra help, after pushing for three and a half hours, she finally welcomed her baby girl into the world. This woman was so relieved and exhausted. It had been a long and arduous journey, but the success of avoiding a cesarean section was an immense satisfaction for her. She felt proud and happy, grateful to her body and the medical staff for providing her with the support and care she needed to get through labor and delivery.
