Tying the Knot in Sin City: A Las Vegas Elopement Photography Adventure
Travel. Buy the ticket and GO!!!!! Don’t ever, EVER hesitate to venture out and see the world. I promise there are ZERO regrets! I have a feeling this is about to become my new hobby! If you’ve ever considered tying the Knot in Sin City, here is your sign! A Las Vegas Elopement Photography Adventure awaits!
I was recently given the incredible honor and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel all the way from my little hometown in Maine to the bright, bustling world of Las Vegas to photograph an elopement for a truly wonderful pair. Their original plans had shifted several times due to unforeseen circumstances, but seeing them finally step into this new chapter together made every twist and turn worth it. From the moment I boarded the plane, I knew this adventure would be something special and it exceeded every expectation. Traveling, exploring, and documenting their story became one of the easiest, most pleasant, and most meaningful experiences I’ve had in my photography career.
When I first landed in Vegas, I texted Gina to let her know I had arrived. She told me she was waiting at Terminal 1, so I grabbed my bags and headed that way. After a few texts, one phone call, and attempting to navigate an airport that was a lot bigger than what I’m used to in Maine, we finally spotted each other. We headed outside to catch the shuttle that brings you to the rental car center a few minutes down the road. Once there, I picked up my car and followed Gina and Rob through the colorful Vegas streets to my hotel. After figuring out the parking situation, a small adventure in itself, we said goodbye for a few hours so I could settle in, unpack, and decompress from a long day of flying.
Later that evening, we decided to meet at The Venetian for dinner. Experiencing the Venice-inspired canals, architecture, and energy of the resort made everything feel even more magical. We enjoyed an incredible meal together, and the conversation flowed effortlessly, about life, travel, and, of course, how excited we all were for the next day’s elopement ceremony at Nelson Ghost Town. It was one of those dinners where time moves quickly because the company is just that good.
The next morning, I woke up wanting to move my body after the long travel day, so I went to the hotel gym to walk and lift some weights. Afterward, I hopped in my car and made my way out to Nelson Ghost Town. When I arrived, I met up with Gina and Rob as they finished getting ready. The desert sun, the old weathered buildings, the colorful vintage cars, and the endless dusty roads made the entire place feel like stepping into another era.
When they were dressed, their officiant, Mike, gathered us together for the ceremony. It was intimate, heartfelt, and perfectly them. After they exchanged vows and rings, we explored the entire ghost town, photographing in front of old trucks, vintage signs, rusted gas pumps, classic cars, abandoned antiques, and all sorts of quirky treasures scattered around the property. We laughed, wandered, and embraced the desert vibe fully. When we finished, the dry desert heat had definitely caught up with us, so we ducked into the little store for cold water. The staff, who were incredibly kind, gave us free bottles of ice-cold water, which felt like heaven.
From there, we drove just down the quiet road, no traffic, no noise, just open desert. The sun was setting, painting the sky in soft pastels. We took even more photos, including some unforgettable shots of Gina and Rob with a Dodge Challenger parked right in the middle of the road. It was cinematic, dreamy, and one of those creative moments where everything comes together effortlessly.
The next day, I woke up early to wander around Vegas a bit more. I made my way toward Mandalay Bay to check out the aquarium. But before it opened, I figured I had to at least gamble once, you know the saying, “When in Vegas!” So I picked a random slot machine, sat down with $30, and within five minutes… I won $2,000. Instantly! I cashed out and walked away immediately, heart pounding, laughing to myself in disbelief. Woohoo!!!
Afterward, I found a beautiful outdoor bar where a server named Cojo made me one of the best meals I had while in Vegas, tamales, chips, and salsa. I chatted with a few people at the bar who happened to be in town for the world’s largest pharmaceutical meeting. Coincidentally, both had been to Maine before! They were so warm and welcoming, and honestly, everyone I met in Vegas was unbelievably friendly.
Later that afternoon, I headed back to my beautiful suite to get ready for Day 2 of elopement photos. I met up with Gina and Rob at the iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign for more portraits, capturing the playful, colorful side of their trip. After that, we went to the Neon Museum, which is basically a playground of vintage Vegas signs. We had an absolute blast wandering through the displays, goofing off, and taking fun, vibrant photos that contrasted so perfectly with the vintage desert look from the day before.
When we finally parted ways, it didn’t feel like goodbye. We all knew, without saying it, that we had made lifelong friends. This trip wasn’t just a work assignment, it was an experience that reminded me how beautiful, spontaneous, and meaningful life can be when you follow your passion and the right people cross your path at the perfect moment.
